Where is Uzès?
Uzès is a delightful town in the Gard département of the Languedoc-Roussillon region of Southern France. It is on the far left hand side of Provence.
It is about a 25-minute drive northeast of Nîmes and a 35-minute drive from Avignon. You can get to Uzès a number of ways:
You could fly in to Nimes or Avignon or a number of nearby cities in the region, and then drive. Marseille-Provence international airport is about 135 km from Uzes.
If coming by car from Paris you take A6 motorway towards Dijon/Lyon. - Continue on A7 and A9 motorways towards Montélimar/Orange/Nîmes. - Take exit 23/Remoulins towards Beaucaire/Tarascon/Uzès. - Go towards Uzès and enter Uzès. - Follow the signs towards Centre-Ville.
Or you can come by TGV to Avignon or Nimes. The Avignon Gare (station) is very user friendly. It is very modern and airy and the car rental is right outside! You can find TGV timetables at the SNCF website …. http://www.tgv-europe.com/en/home/
If coming from Paris, there is a TGV that departs from Gare de Lyon, which is in the 12th or you can leave directly from CDG aeroport. It takes you to TGV Gare in Avignon. The TGV service takes just under 3 hours from Paris to Avignon and 4 hours from Geneva to Avignon. Internet only (idtgv) tickets, which you print off yourself from your computer, can be bought up to 4 months in advance. Regular TGV tickets can be purchased up to 60 days in advance. Trains from UK, Brussels and Amsterdam arrive at Paris Gard du Nord station. Trains for the south of France leave from Gare de Lyon. You must book as all seats are reserved. If buying tgv tickets from Australia you can go to http://www.raileurope.com.au/australia/rail/fares_schedules/index.htm
When you book though, make sure you book to arrive at Avignon TGV - not Avignon centre. Another site, http://bonjourlafrance.net/france-trains/stations/avignon-tgv-station.htm gives you details and some more directions.
If you are using public transport, or wish to visit Avignon first up, the TCRA Shuttle links the TGV station to the centre of Avignon in less than 15 minutes. It leaves from the bus station on the Arrivals side (Pavillon "Arrivée"). It costs about 1.10€. Ticket sales information is available on the website (in French) and at the TGV train station open from the end of May to the start of October. Open daily 08:45-12:45 and 14:00-19:00. There is a bus service from Nimes and Avignon to Uzès - STD Gard - the bus timetable on www.stdgard.com. A taxi to Uzes costs about 55-60 euros from Avignon, slightly less from Nimes.
Finding Ucetia Apartment?
As you enter Uzès , you will find yourself on a circular road that runs around the old town. Follow this until you pass the Office de Tourisme (on your right) and the Vieux Cafe (on your left). Rue de la Republique is our street and it is the next on your left. It is a pedestrian only street but I will give you directions as to how to unload your baggage. You can actually bring a car in sometimes, but the road is only a few metres from your front door anyway.
